Our trip to Chiang Mai has been amazing! We headed this way Monday morning and are
here till Wednesday morning. On our way
to the city, we stopped and had lunch and a relaxing afternoon by a lake. The tables were set under little huts that
lined the shore. It was very beautiful
to look at. We also got massages which
was wonderful after the crazy busy week/weekend. It was nice to have a relaxing day of just
sitting by the water.
We then headed tour hotel in the city of Chiang Mai. Our hotel sits right in the middle of the
night market, which is AMAZING! The rest
of our night was spent shopping and eating at the market. It is full of many different venders with
clothes, jewelry, pictures, and other decoration/nic naks. I spent wayyyy to much money here, but I’m only
in Thailand once right?! Until I return because
I love it so much! ;)
Today was spent exploring in the mountains. As we traveled to our first location, we made
a few look out stops along the way. It
was very beautiful! We were lucky enough
to stumble upon a waterfall on the side of the mountain. I guess they exist in Thailand also Aunt
Jodi!
Our first stop was at a temple. We were able to go inside and walk
around. The temple was full of many
statues and towers. It was very beautiful.
Not like anything I have seen in the states. There was so much detail and work put into
the building of this temple. I enjoyed
being able to see all the sacred parts added in and the rituals Buddhists
practice. Even as a Christian, I was
able to appreciate all the effort Buddhists give to creating such amazing
places to worship. It is also very
interesting to see how strong the faith of the people in Thailand is. This is very different from America where
everyone believes in different religions and practices of faith. Here, the vast majority is Buddhist.
Next, we traveled father up the mountain to a huge
garden. We explored one side that
overlooked a small village. We found
another waterfall J The other side was full of flowers. We climbed the stairs throughout it and took
many many pictures. Again, this was a beautiful
place to spend a relaxing afternoon. This
location reminded me a lot of home and Colorado with all the hiking in the
mountains to waterfalls and flowers.
Looks like I have another reason to come back: bring mom and Aunt Jodi
to witness it!
I am super excited for tomorrow. We are spending the day on a safari adventure
at the elephant park! We get to go on an
elephant ride, see a show, and partake in a few other fun things. Outside of teaching, this was the one major
thing I was looking forward to on this trip.
I cannot wait to ride a real life elephant!!!!!
